Founded in 2006, the Afiara String Quartet completed a residency at The Juilliard School this May. Their final concert included the U.S. premiere of Brett Abigana’s String Quartet No. 2, written for the ensemble. They then returned to the Montreal Chamber Music Festival to participate in a six-concert Beethoven Cycle with the Tokyo and Chiara String Quartets. Earlier last season, they performed the Mendelssohn Octet at the Kennedy Center with the Juilliard String Quartet. At the Banff International String Quartet Competition, the Afiara won the Szekely Prize for the best Beethoven performance.
